Are you afraid that some people from legal department of some company are going to come at your home and arrest you? Are you afraid that you will have to be present and will be accused of violating the terms in a contract you made with some company in a court in Surat or Latur or maybe Aurangabad?
Well, you are at the right place if you need solution to this problem of yours.
Here in this post, I’ll reveal to you a popular scam that is going at a very high frequency and you might be trapped in it.
Who is the target?
The target is YOU. Yes, YOU, who is in search of some “work from home” job.
In a quest to find a genuine work from home job, you posted your resume on popular Job portals and are expecting any of the following work:
- Data entry
- Form filling
- Capcha work, etc
How did I get caught in this scam?
You got caught in this scam because you were very obsessed in finding a work from home job and you didn’t care to check if you are going with some bad company.
Everyone knows the basics of common scams like if they ask for deposit before starting work, it’s a scam. Also, if they are paying you a very high amount for very little work, it’s a scam.
But let’s agree these are old school tricks of scammers.
Nowadays scammers have advanced their techniques and are finding new ways to scam you.
What is the process of this scam?
Mostly, the process that these scammers follow is same and followed by almost every scammer.
Just that you understand, I’ll explain it to you in steps.
Below is the summary and I’m going to explain every step in detail later in this post.
- Step 1: Scammer enters your life.
- Step 2: You are asked to fill in some details.
- Step 3: You are provided with software.
- Step 4: Fake work agreement
- Step 5: Notice to pay the penalty
- Step 6: Legal Department (Fake) Calls
- Step 7: You are abused, depressed and helpless.
- Step 8: Lawyer sends you a legal notice at your address or emails a copy to you.
Let’s dive deep into these steps, shall we?
Step 1: Scammer enters your life.
Some random day, when you were expecting a call from some company to provide you with some employment, you receive a call from customer care of some company.
She/He raises your expectations and you are told you can earn around 20k to 25k per 10 days. All you have to do is do some amount of work.
She informs you that you’ll have to complete the target, etc.
Now, even though the scammer pretends to have made every part of the job clear, he doesn’t mention the word “PENALTY”.
Penalty is what going to cause problems in the future.
Step 2: You are asked to fill in some details.
Once they receive a verbal affirmation from you to do the job, they ask you send details like, photograph of Adhar card, photograph of your sign on paper, etc.
If you don’t do it on time, they will call you again and again and ask you to send this details saying its “company’s policy”.
Step 3: You are provided with software to work.
After you send your details, they ask you to download some software to work and give you login id and password.
There are certain terms and conditions like:
- Login from only 1 IP is allowed
- Your access will be blocked if multiple logins are detected
- You need to maintain 90% accuracy, etc.
You download the software, and start to work.
A thing to note here is that many people who went through this say that the software never worked. And when they called their customer support, they didn’t respond or gave unclear instructions.
Step 5: Fake work agreement
After a day or two, you’ll receive a fake work agreement on your email.
You’re very happy that you received a job, and now due to the agreement, it’s legal and genuine work and you are going to get paid, and will earn a lot more.
But you are surprised when you see a clause in the agreement which says, you’ll have to pay us 5k or 10k penalty if you fail to provide the work in 10 days or fail to provide 90% accuracy.
Let’s be frank and agree, even if you work very hard, there is no way you can complete that huge work in 10 days, and even if you complete, they are going to find some fault and ask you for penalty.
This is the time your brain hints you something is wrong and you start searching internet with the company name and realize you have been trapped.
Step 5: Notice to pay the penalty
After 10 days of whatever time is allotted to you is over, you’ll receive an email saying you’ve failed to do the work or provide the accuracy and you need to pay the penalty fees.
They will send you this email 2-3 times, even call you 2-3 times and ask you to pay it.
The word they will use again and again is “It was made clear to you in the beginning and it is mentioned in the agreement.”
Since this is a normal notice on email, you’ll not take it seriously and ignore it.
Step 6: Legal Department (Fake) calls
After 4-5 days, the calls from customer support stop. You think they are off your tail now. But you don’t know what is coming next.
You receive an email from legal department of so called company mentioning if you not pay the penalty they are going to file a case in court against you.
They don’t fail to mention that all the expenses of lawyers will be covered by you, and it may cost you a lot of time and money.
So, they recommend settlement and promise that if you pay the penalty fees, they’ll cancel the contract and you are free.
They keep calling, and when you start ignoring them, their frequency of calls increases.
You’ll receive SMS/emails like an internal case is registered on you, for settlement call **********, etc.
Step 7: You are abused, depressed and helpless.
They keep calling you from different numbers, the callers saying they are lawyers hired by this company and if you don’t pay the penalty fees, they will have no option but to file a court case against you.
Then they start abusing you, torturing you. You get ill of countless phones and abuses and tension of legal actions on you.
This is what they want you to be, helpless and depressed so they can extort money from you.
Step 8: Lawyer sends you a legal notice at your address or emails a copy to you
You are going through a lot and maybe are thinking to give up and send them the penalty fee and end it all for good. But you know somewhere in your heart they are not going to do anything as they are spammers.
Then the doorbell rings and you have a legal notice by some lawyer at your doorstep saying you need to pay the penalty.
Now you are confused if this is really a spam or am I trapped in some legal thing?
There are different ways they can do this; sometimes they send you a copy on your email. When you call the number, the lawyers introduces him again and says pay the fees or “see you in the court”.
Now you are searching the name of lawyer in Google and find many complaints against him. Still you are afraid of the consequences.
What should I do, should I pay them?
Yes, you read it right. You should not pay them under any circumstances. They are spammers, they cannot touch you.
Everything is fake, the company, the agreement, the lawyer, everything is a big fat FAKE.
If you still are depressed and in tension, approach your lawyer and consult with him. He will assure you that it’s a spam and nothing will happen.
What should I do next?
Go to nearest police station and file a complaint against them.
The only reason they are still active and ruining lives of people like you out there is because no one filed a complaint against them.
If you file a complaint, will all the proofs you got, you need not to worry.
Remember: YOU ARE SAFE, YOU ARE OK, THERE IS NO NEED TO BE DEPRESSED, TO TAKE TENSION. THEY CANNOT EVEN TOUCH YOUR HAIR.
They didn’t take a deposit? Why?
As I said in the beginning, everyone knows if some company is demanding deposit for work, it’s fake. So, they changed the criteria now.
What they do is they don’t demand deposit, they say that they will cut the deposit from your FIRST PAYMENT.
This works in their favour in TWO ways:
- You are now sure that they are not a fake company
- You are sure that you’ll receive your payment
I URGE YOU….
Commenting on this post and asking for help will do no good to you. Firstly, you should stop panicking and think wisely.
I urge you to file a complaint against these people if you are a victim of this scam.
Don’t worry, just file an FIR and let the police handle them.
Note: We have no association with any government department, so we can’t help you. All we can do is ask you to go to the police so they can help you.
YOU WILL BE OK, DON’T PAY THEM A PENNY OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!
